Automotive Batteries

No one wants to experience the hassle of unexpected battery failure. Your car battery provides the engine with starting power and stabilizes the voltage to keep the engine running smoothly. It also supplies power to the various electrical components and accessories in your car, such as the lights, alarm system and radio.

Car batteries typically have a service life of 3 to 5 years. If your battery is older than 3 years, it's a good idea to have its condition monitored. Problems to be aware of include:

Check Engine Light is On

The check engine light on the dashboard may light up if your battery has become weak. If this occurs you will need to have your battery assessed by a professional.

Leaking Battery

This will look like an ashy, white substance around the battery terminals (the positive and negative metal connections on the top of the battery).

Swollen or Bloated Battery

When exposed to excessive heat or cold the battery case may become swollen, decreasing the life of your car battery.

Low Level Battery Fluid

Some car batteries have a transparent part of the casing, or a service plug, to monitor the battery fluid level. If the fluid level is below the lead plates your battery may be overcharging, which can cause the battery to overheat.
